Code of Ethics

American Boat Builders and Repairers Association, Inc.

Adopted 15 January 1984, the ABBRA Code of Ethics seeks to establish the standards of business conduct expected of members of the organization. All ABBRA Members are encouraged to post the Code of Ethics prominently in their place of business and visible for customers.

AIMS AND PURPOSES

In order to promote and maintain fair competition and dependability, and to protect the public against deception, fraud, misrepresentation and unethical practices in the construction and repair of boats and sails, the following Code of Ethics is hereby adopted, and the members of the American Boat Builders and Repairers Association, Inc., pledge themselves:

  1. to establish and maintain the highest standards of workmanship in the construction and repair of both pleasure and commercial boats, and to stand behind this workmanship upon completion;
  2. to establish and maintain the highest standards of honesty and integrity in dealing with owners and customers;
  3. to protect and promote the interests of both pleasure and commercial boat owners against loss through misrepresentation, deception or fraud;
  4. to take no unfair advantage of fellow competitors, to be willing to share with them the lessons of experience and study, and never to publicly criticize a competitor, nor to volunteer an adverse opinion as to a competitor’s transaction;
  5. to make advertising as accurate and truthful as possible;
  6. to condemn, and to declare unfair, dishonorable trade practices in any form whatsoever, and to report to the Association any evidence of such dishonorable or unfair practices; and
  7. to endeavor, in every way, to preserve and protect the marine environment upon which the entire Association depends for its livelihood.
