ABBRA Offers a ‘Day of Training’ in August
ABBRA to offer two courses immediately following Summer Symposium
Warren, RI––The American Boat Builders & Repairers Association (ABBRA) will be offering two courses this summer at Mystic Yachting Center in Mystic, Connecticut, immediately following the association’s second annual
"We’ve created a day of training after our Summer Symposium for ABBRA members and non-members," Doug Domenie, president of ABBRA, says. "Our Marine Equipment Training (MEOT) has always been a popular course; we decided to complement the information available in the MEOT with a Hydraulic Trailer Training designed by leading industry professionals."
ABBRA’s MEOT training addresses such classroom topics as OSHA requirements, operator responsibilities, accident prevention, equipment inspection, boatlifting and blocking standards, job-site safety, lift planning, supervisor awareness, and rigging considerations. ABBRA staff developed the Hydraulic Trailer Training with instructor Captain Salvatore Gugliara to train and inform hydraulic trailer operators on safe and efficient equipment practices. Long-time renowned ABBRA instructor Paul Doppke will be presenting the Straddlelift session and Captain Gugliara will present the Hydraulic Trailer Training.
The fee for the MEOT in Marine Straddlelift is $150 per person. MEOT participants are eligible to register for the new Hydraulic Trailer Training for $50. All fees include course instruction, related course handouts and a certificate of completion following successful completion of a written final exam.
ABBRA’s second annual Summer Symposium is a social event catered to the boat building and repair industry. For ABBRA members and ABBRA non-members who own or manage a boatyard, a boat building and repair business, or work as an affiliated marine industry partner, the two-day Summer Symposium presents a unique opportunity to participate in an event geared specifically to their interests. Highlights include a panel discussion of the proposed copper ban, a presentation on hiring and retaining top talent, and an interactive roundtable session. The Symposium will close with a repeat presentation from last year’s attendee favorite: maritime law specialist Dennis Nixon. On the second day of the ABBRA Summer Symposium, attendees will join a field trip visiting four regional boat building and repair facilities: Mystic Shipyard, Dodson Boatyard, Noank Village Boatyard, and Mystic Seaport. The cost of the field trip is included in the registration price and incorporates the private tours, lunch, and all necessary transportation.
Registration is currently open for the Summer Symposium on August 2–3, 2010. A Marine Equipment Operator Training (MEOT) in Marine Straddlelift is scheduled for the morning of August 4 and a new ABBRA course, the Hydraulic Trailer Training, will be available to MEOT participants that afternoon at a discounted rate.
